A thoughtful study with more than 3,000 Executive Directors from nonprofits across the country is compiled in the Daring to Lead 2011 report, a joint project led by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services and the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation.
Rick Moyers, co-author of the report, understands executive directors will be better served by investing more time with their board members.
Moyers believes:
“the more effort nonprofit leaders put into supporting their boards, the happier they are with the board’s performance—but few leaders spend enough hours working with trustees to make a difference.”
The report presents four “calls to action” that are straightforward yet often neglected strategies:
1) Plan for leadership succession
2) Increase the Board role in understanding financial sustainability
3) Expand professional development for the chief executive
4) Find new ways to strengthen the board
